Joomla Installation PDF Print E-mail

The following will guide you through the installing Joomla.

Before you start the Joomla installation please ensure your web host supports the following so Joomla! can be installed correctly.

You also must ensure that you have MySQL, XML and Zlib support built into your hosting package.

Step 1 : Download the latest version of Joomla!

The first step is to download the latest release of Joomla from the offical web site.

Step 2 : Upload the files to the server using your FTP client

The next stange is to unzip the Joomla zip file package you have just downloaded from the web site and upload all the files contained in the zip package to your server using an FTP client. The ideal location to upload the files to is the Root of the public_html or WWW directory.

Step 3 : Create a MYSQL database for your Joomla.

To create a new MYSQL database which will store all the tables for the Joomla database please complete the following. The most common hosting control panel is called Cpanel which is the one we will use for this tutorial.

A) Access your hosting control panel by entering the url http://www.myhostingcompany.com/cpanel

B) Now select the MYSQL database icon

c) Now create a new MYSQL database for the Joomla installation

D) Add a new user to the database by entering the user name and password

E) Give the new user "all privileges to the database "

To give the user ALL privileges / permissions to the database you have created just select the user from the drop down list and then select the database. You also need to select the check box ALL

Step 4 : Start the Joomla Installation

Now you have created the new MYSQL database and uploaded all the files to your web hosting provider the next stage is to install Joomla.

To start the install routine open your browser and enter your web address http://www.mywebaddress.com you will now see the following screen if you uploaded all the files to the public_html or WWW server directory.

From the above screen you will all the relevent directories are set to "writable" .

Now click on the NEXT button and the following screen will appear.

Agreed to the licence option and click next

Now you will need to enter the configuration information which will be written to the configuration.php file about the database and user details you created above.

The host name will always be " local host "

MYSQL User Name is the name you used for the new MYSQL user you created.

The MYSQL password is the password you used when creating the new user

The database name is the name you used to create the new database

Leave all the other options as default and click the next button.

The following screen will now appear where you need to enter the site name for your joomla CMS site.

Click next and following screen will now appear where you can enter the following details.

URL - Do not change this option

Path - do not change this option

Email - Enter the email address for your new web site.

Admin password - enter a new password you will use to access the administrator area of the joomla web site.

CHMOD file and folder permissions - Do not change the permissions.

Click next to access the final install page

For security reasons you will need to delete the install.php file on your server plus the installation directory on your server. Once you have removed the directory and install file you will need to refresh your browser and your site should appear.

you can now use the Joomla content management system CMS.
